Film Screenings in Singapore (2026)

The indie cinema scene is rebuilding.

After The Projector closed in 2025, Singapore's indie film screening scene took a hit. But 2026 is seeing a revival — here's everything happening and how to stay in the loop.

When The Projector shut its doors in August 2025 — $1.2 million in debt, voluntary liquidation — it felt like the end of indie cinema in Singapore. The city's only dedicated arthouse venue, gone. But the demand didn't disappear with the venue. It just went underground, scattered across social media groups and frustrated Google searches. Now it's coming back. Filmhouse, led by The Projector's former general manager Sharon Tan and members of the original team, opened at Golden Mile Tower in February 2026. Three screens, 4K projection in the main room, and curated thematic seasons. SFS Somerset, run by the Singapore Film Society, took over Hall 6 at GV Cineleisure on New Year's Day 2026 — 66 seats, up to eight films a month, personal curation by chairman Kenneth Tan. Classics at Capitol brings restored prints to the historic Capitol Theatre. Ee Hoe Hean Club and TBC Bookstore are running monthly screenings. The scene is fragmented but alive. Strata Film Club exists to tie it all together — tracking what's screening where, building community, and organising our own events for the films nobody else will touch.
