Golden Village arthouse films Singapore
You're not going to find many.
Golden Village dominates Singapore's cinema market, but arthouse and indie films rarely make it onto their screens. If you're searching for independent cinema at GV, here's what you need to know — and where else to look.
Golden Village runs the most screens in Singapore. But scroll through gv.com.sg on any given week and count the independent films. You'll run out of fingers fast — because there usually aren't any. GV programmes for volume: blockbusters, franchise sequels, and regional crowd-pleasers. That's their business model, and it works for them. But it leaves an entire audience behind. The people searching for Marty Supreme showtimes at Golden Village, or wondering if Bugonia is playing at GV, or hoping to catch the latest A24 release — they're out of luck. The good news: Singapore's indie cinema scene is rebuilding. Filmhouse opened at Golden Mile Tower in February 2026, picking up where The Projector left off. SFS Somerset runs out of a 66-seat hall inside GV Cineleisure itself. And Strata Film Club is building a community to organise screenings of the films that GV won't programme. If you care about cinema beyond the multiplex, you have options now. They're just not at Golden Village.
